Collection: The Indigo Collection

It created ripples in the European mainland and changed the way the world saw Blue there after - year 1615 (The Storey of Indigo - gaatha).

Indigo is the oldest natural dye known to mankind.  This gorgeous blue colour that is Indigo comes from the process of fermenting the leaves that is harvested from the plant Indigofera tinctoria. The leaves are soaked in water for several days and begins to ferment. When ready, the fabric is dipped. It is through the oxidation process of drying the cloth that it begins to turn the beautiful hues of blue. Depending on the depth of the colour wanted, the cloth may be dyed several times to achieve the deep richness you see here in this image.

Indigo was considered the rarest and most regal of colour, that when it first arrived in Europe, only royalty and aristocrats were able to afford it; it became the colour of Royalty.

Our Indigo cloth is all handmade and hand-dyed in India.  The skill of indigo dyeing has been a tradition with specific families who specialize in the craft. This artisanal skill has been passed down from generation to generation... and whom still use this craft today.
